
Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24, 1977) is an American actor and producer. Her films that focus on the theme of women are her mainstay. She has won numerous honors such as an Academy Award as well as a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential persons around the globe in 2012. Chastain was a keen actor since her early years. She made her acting debut as Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. She studied acting at Juilliard School and was then signed to a talent-holding deal with John Wells, a television producer. She was a frequent guest on several television series, and took on roles in several stage productions. After debuting in a film at the age of 31, in the drama Jolene (2008), Chastain made her mark in the year 2011 with six films that included the dramas Take Shelter (2011) and The Tree of Life (2011). As a character in the films, she played an aspirant socialite and CIA analyst, she was awarded Academy Award nominations in The Help (2011) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were more commercially successful. Her strong-willed portrayals in the dramas A Most Valuable Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), Molly's Game (2017) and Scenes from a Marriage (2021) were further praised. After portraying Tammy Faye Bakker, she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress and Tammy Wynette in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (21) and Tammy Wynette from The Eyes of Tammy-Faye. Chastain is the creator of the production company Freckle Films, which was designed to increase diversity in film, and is an investor in the soccer club Angel City FC. She is vocal about gender equality, mental illness and racial equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (fashion executive) is her husband.
