Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the highest-streamed tune within six months. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton has not just brought attention to reggaeton, but also attracted attention to Latin music more generally. In 2015, there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 the number of songs that made it was 41. Justin Bieber's bilingual remake of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular musicians began collaborating with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna was a part of Maluma on Medellin. In 2020, several Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with how the genre was moving toward mainstream. In contrast, a young generation, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the trend going. His style often included elements of electronic dance music, along with other styles.
